Baby Adoption from Cambodia
International or overseas adoption can take place from many countries across the globe. All countries have their own adoption laws and policies, and frustratingly, these can change quickly and for no apparent reason.

Adoption from Cambodia is possible. Adoption through adoption agencies that has been stopped, but private adoptions are still possible.
Here is some information gathered from the embassy, lawyers and adoption agencies still working in Cambodia:
For a private adoption, an agreement must be made between the adoptive parents and the birth parents or guardians. The process needs to be legalised by going through the sangkat or local court of law.
There are rules for private adoption in Cambodia:
- An adoptive mother or father must be more than 25 years of age and must be at least 20 years older than the adoptee who is also must be less than 8 years of age.
- Only two adoptees may be adopted by an adopter.
- There must be consent of the natural parent or guardian of the adoptee.
NB- The British Government has recently suspended intercountry adoption from Cambodia because of child trafficking fears.
